Psalm 23 offers deep comfort to those living with chronic illness by revealing God not only as Shepherd, but as Caregiver—one who provides rest, restores the weary, and remains present through pain, uncertainty, and the long road of suffering.
Chronic illness and pain take much from us—normalcy, abilities, dreams, and even relationships. It is natural to grieve and mourn those losses. Explore the sorrow and numbness of loss, but also the tender arrival of light, hope, and healing. Through grief, we can begin to see differently, breathe again, and slowly move forward into a new way of living.
It’s okay for care receivers to attend to the caregiver’s needs. It’s precisely what God’s Word teaches us. (Let’s not compare pain levels.)
